In the daily upkeep of the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, Saudi authorities deploy an extensive sterilization and scenting regimen. Fawzi Al Hujaili, Deputy Chief of the General Authority for Care of the Two Holy Mosques for Services, outlined the meticulous procedures. A staggering 115 tonnes of substances are dedicated to sterilizing rugs, with an additional 30 tonnes of perfume used daily to infuse the mosque with a fragrant ambiance.
This process extends to various facets of the mosque, including the floors, where 110 tonnes are employed for disinfection. The magnitude of this effort is underscored by the deployment of over 600 devices operated by well-trained personnel. The Prophet’s Mosque, as the second holiest site in Islam, draws millions of Muslims globally who converge for prayers and visits to the revered tomb of Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
