Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Sunday that the government had arranged three special commercial flights to bring home 540 Pakistani students from Kyrgyzstan. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Dar, who is also the foreign minister, mentioned that around 130 students had already returned the previous day on regular commercial flights.
Dar explained that the three special flights scheduled for that day would evacuate an additional 540 students. With these flights, the total number of students brought back to Pakistan would reach 670.
He also talked about the recent violent incidents in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Pakistani students and others had been attacked following a fight that involved Egyptian nationals. To address the situation, Kyrgyz police were deployed to control the violence, and Pakistani officials began talks with Kyrgyz authorities to ensure the safety of the students.
Dar shared that Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev had assured him that the situation was being closely monitored. On Saturday, peace was maintained in Bishkek, offering some relief amid the difficulties faced by the students.
The deputy prime minister emphasized that the Pakistani government was taking all necessary steps to protect its citizens abroad and ensure their safe return home. The decision to arrange special flights was part of these efforts, aiming to quickly and efficiently evacuate the students from the tense situation in Kyrgyzstan.
