Islamabad is planning to upgrade its outdated manual streetlight system, which has been in place for 62 years, with a modern automatic one. The aim is to save both human resources and electricity.
As part of a pilot project’s initial phase, Seventh Avenue and Saddar Road in Sector G-6 will be equipped with an automatic system linked to a computer. This system will be programmed to operate based on sunset and sunrise times.
The automated process eliminates the need for manual efforts by staff to turn lights on and off in each sector. This not only brings about significant time savings but also conserves energy.
Islamabad has around 42,000 streetlights, and the complete automation of these systems is expected to enhance monitoring efficiency and optimize resource utilization. The move signifies a step towards modernizing the city’s infrastructure for better efficiency and sustainability.
