In a gaming triumph, 13-year-old Willis Gibson from Oklahoma has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first human player to conquer Tetris, the popular Nintendo video game, thirty-four years after its release.
The remarkable moment was captured on video as Willis Gibson reached an astonishing level 157, causing the game to crash. In his excitement, the teenager uploaded the video of this achievement to his YouTube account. Overwhelmed with emotion, Willis exclaimed, “I’m going to pass out, I can’t feel my fingers,” as he celebrated in his chair.
Before this, in 2010, professional competitive gamer Thor Aackerlund had used a technique called hypertapping to reach level 30, involving vibrating the controller at a speed faster than the game allows. While others had adopted hypertapping and various strategies since then, only artificial intelligence (AI) had managed to reach the game’s actual kill screen until last month.
In Tetris, a kill screen occurs when a player completes a level, causing the game to crash. Willis’s remarkable 38-minute run led to the screen collapsing and the falling blocks stopping, marking his victory.
Known as Blue Scuti on YouTube, Willis has been playing Tetris since he was eleven and has participated in several gaming competitions. His achievement stands as a remarkable feat in the gaming world, showcasing the skill and determination of a young gamer.
