Recently, Tianjin Dayu Irrigation Group, a leading company in China’s water-saving industry, shipped out the first batch of equipment for the Million Acres of Green Pakistan Smart Farm Project. This project aims to modernize agriculture in Pakistan by using advanced technology and irrigation systems. The equipment, which includes intelligent water and fertilizer integrated irrigation systems, will cover an area of 2,000 hectares and support the cultivation of crops like wheat, cotton, tomatoes, and corn.
The initiative is part of Pakistan’s efforts to promote modern agricultural development and increase food production to meet the needs of its growing population. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the Land Information and Management System (LIMS) initiative in July 2023 to improve agricultural productivity. The Million Acres of Green Pakistan Smart Farm Project is a response to this initiative and aims to utilize advanced technology for agricultural development.
Ghulam Qadir, Pakistan’s Commercial Counselor in China, emphasized the importance of leveraging advanced technology to boost agricultural production and support food exports. He expressed interest in collaborating with Dayu Group in various areas, including flood prevention, disaster early warning, and rural sewage treatment.
Cui Jing, senior vice president of Dayu Group, mentioned that Pakistani partners are interested in Dayu’s rural sewage treatment and farmer drinking water safety projects. Successful cooperation in these areas could lead to the introduction of similar projects in Pakistan, further expanding the scope of cooperation between the two countries.
Pakistan faces chronic water shortages, and a significant portion of its water supply is used for cultivating water-intensive crops like wheat, rice, sugar cane, and cotton. The partnership between Tianjin and Pakistan focuses on promoting green manufacturing and implementing water-saving practices in agriculture.
The collaboration aims to transfer Tianjin’s experience in water management and conservation to Pakistan, with a focus on agricultural water conservation, safe drinking water for farmers, and rural sewage treatment. This long-term partnership seeks to address water scarcity challenges and promote sustainable agricultural practices in both countries.
