Rawalpindi Police have taken a strict stance ahead of the Basant festival to ensure public safety by prohibiting motorcycles from accessing flyovers. This measure aims to prevent any potential accidents during the festive celebrations.
In light of the Basant festival in Punjab, various precautions have been implemented to mitigate the risks associated with kite strings. The Rawalpindi Police have specifically closed off flyovers along Murree Road, Airport Road, and other areas to motorcyclists to avoid any untoward incidents.
Furthermore, law enforcement authorities in Rawalpindi have taken decisive actions against individuals engaged in unlawful activities during Basant, including those involved in aerial firing. Several individuals have been apprehended across different parts of the city for their involvement in such illegal practices.
The police department, along with the district administration, remains vigilant in maintaining peace and upholding law and order throughout the province during the festive period.
Earlier, the Punjab police forwarded a recommendation to the provincial government proposing stricter penalties for kite-flying offenses. This recommendation includes increasing the imprisonment duration to five years and imposing a fine of Rs2 million for individuals involved in the preparation and flying of kites, particularly those using prohibited materials.
Moreover, efforts have been made at the national level, with a bill introduced in the National Assembly aiming to completely ban kite-flying in the federal capital. These measures underscore the authorities’ commitment to ensuring public safety and preventing any harmful incidents during festive celebrations.
