On Monday, March 11, 2024, President Asif Ali Zardari, who recently became the 14th president of the country, attended a special ceremony at Islamabad’s Aiwan-e-Sadr. This ceremony included a guard of honour inspection by the armed forces contingents.
President Zardari arrived at the ceremony in a traditional horse-driven buggy. During the event, he interacted with officers and staff members of the President House. This is a usual practice done for both newly elected and outgoing presidents. The former president, Arif Alvi, also received a guard of honour when he left office.
Before this event, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa had administered the oath to President Zardari on Sunday. Zardari won the election with 411 votes from parliament and all four provincial assemblies. He was supported by allied parties, while his opponent, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-supported Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), received 181 votes.
