Reports indicate that there’s a possibility of Mohammad Rizwan becoming the new T20 captain for Pakistan, which could mean he replaces Shaheen Shah Afridi, the current captain.
This potential change comes after Shaheen’s performance as captain for Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine wasn’t as expected.
Pakistan’s national team, known as the Green Shirts, played their first T20 series against New Zealand under Shaheen’s captaincy after the 2023 World Cup. Unfortunately, Pakistan lost to New Zealand, scoring 4-1.
On the other hand, although Shaheen led Lahore Qalandars to victory in the last two PSL editions, the team’s performance in the current season hasn’t been impressive. They’ve only won one match and finished at the bottom of the table.
There are suggestions that the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has been receiving advice about changing the team’s captain.
