AP Moller-Maersk Terminals, a big player in global logistics, is thinking about building Pakistan’s first green transshipment terminal. The CEO, Keith Svendsen, and a team from APM Terminals came to Pakistan, invited by SIFC, to explore investment opportunities.
They want to set up this new terminal in Karachi to handle large cargo ships, which could bring in a lot of money for Pakistan. Svendsen liked Pakistan’s policies that encourage investments and said they’re ready to start building the terminal. APM Terminals is already a big part of Pakistan’s import-export business, controlling about 20% of it.
They think Pakistan is a good place to invest because of SIFC’s support and want to help develop the maritime industry and train local workers. This plan fits with Pakistan’s goal of boosting trade and connections with other countries in the region.
APM Terminals’ investment could give Pakistan’s economy a boost by creating jobs and improving trade with countries in Central Asia.
