Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has expressed opposition to a proposed tax on Nas_war in the upcoming provincial budget.
During a recent KP cabinet meeting to finalize budget plans for 2024, Gandapur argued against taxing Nas_war, a type of moist powdered tobacco commonly used by people with limited means. He emphasized that taxing this product would place an undue burden on those who rely on it.
Nas_war is widely consumed in Afghanistan and neighboring countries like Pakistan, India, and Central Asian republics. Users typically place it under their lower lip or inside their cheek for extended periods.
Medical professionals caution that Nas_war addiction can lead to serious health issues such as gum infections, jaw problems, and tooth loss. Despite health concerns, the product remains popular among certain segments of the population, especially in rural areas.
Gandapur’s stance reflects ongoing debates within the KP government about balancing public health considerations with financial policies in the upcoming budget.
