The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has reported that residents of Lahore are using 500 GB of free Wi-Fi data every day. On average, around 50,000 people are benefiting from this service at 100 different access points across the city.
In the past month, approximately 1.2 million people have used this free Wi-Fi, consuming a total of 11,775 GB of data. This initiative, which is led by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is designed to provide residents with emergency connectivity. The aim is to help citizens contact authorities and their loved ones when needed.
However, the free Wi-Fi service is limited to essential services. It can be used for emergency apps, police communication, and taxi bookings, but it does not support entertainment platforms like Facebook and YouTube. The focus is on providing practical and necessary connectivity rather than recreational use.
