‘4-5 Players are Sleeping in Dressing Room’, Hafeez Discloses Shocking Incident of Pakistan Team

Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez has openly criticized the national cricket team after their early exit from the T20 World Cup. Speaking candidly in an interview with cricketing icons Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist, Hafeez addressed several issues that plagued the team during the tournament.

Having served as the team’s director and interim head coach from November 2023 to February 2024, Hafeez witnessed firsthand the problems within the squad. He highlighted a significant lack of discipline, particularly during matches. Hafeez shared a shocking anecdote to illustrate his point.

“Imagine this, Gilly: in the middle of a Test match, I walked into the dressing room and found 4-5 players fast asleep. How can this be acceptable?” Hafeez questioned. Vaughan, attempting to lighten the mood, asked if the players were simply tired. Hafeez, however, was not amused. “I don’t know if they were tired, but this behavior is completely unacceptable during a professional game,” he said.

Hafeez emphasized the necessity of maintaining focus and discipline during matches. “As a team director, I couldn’t allow such behavior. Players must be fully engaged and focused during the game. Off the field, they can do what they like, but during game time, their attention must be on cricket. Fast bowlers, for example, can rest and take ice baths, but they should still stay mentally tuned to the match. Unlike other teams, we cannot afford to switch off,” he asserted.

Despite the media’s criticism of his strict stance, Hafeez stood firm in his beliefs. He stressed that concentration and professionalism are key to success in cricket. “The media might not have liked my approach, but it’s crucial for the team’s performance. Staying focused during matches is essential,” he concluded.

Hafeez’s remarks shed light on the internal issues facing the Pakistan cricket team, pointing to a need for better discipline and commitment if they hope to perform better in future tournaments.
