Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced on a recent Friday that the federal government plans to extend the successful solar energy initiatives from Balochistan to Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The aim is to convert agricultural tube wells to solar power, promoting sustainable energy practices and reducing dependence on diesel.
In a meeting held at the PM House to discuss the solarisation of agricultural tube wells and combatting electricity theft, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted solar energy as the most economical option for electricity generation. He emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing solar energy solutions.
The meeting revealed projections suggesting that this transition could potentially save Pakistan $2.7 billion annually in foreign exchange. Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed relevant authorities to collaborate closely with provincial governments to develop a comprehensive strategy for the solar conversion of agricultural tube wells.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz directed officials to devise plans to strengthen efforts against electricity theft, acknowledging and appreciating the cooperation of provincial governments in this endeavor. He also advocated for the introduction of a smart metering system to address concerns related to excessive billing.
