Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has officially launched the Chief Minister Transport Programme for Women, a significant initiative aimed at improving transportation for female students in the province. As part of this program, 76 buses have been delivered to girls’ colleges, helping to address the issue of transportation access for young women pursuing their education.
In the first phase of this initiative, 19 buses were handed over to college principals in various tehsils that have been lacking proper transport facilities. Some of these areas include Bhakkar, Sialkot, and Hasilpur, where transportation options for students have been particularly limited. This first step demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting women’s education and ensuring that they have the means to travel to their schools safely and efficiently.
The Chief Minister announced that the initiative will continue to expand over the coming months, with plans for two additional phases. By April 2025, more buses will be provided to additional colleges, further increasing access to education for female students across the province.
During the launch event, CM Maryam Nawaz took the opportunity to inspect the new buses. She also expressed the possibility of including air-conditioned vehicles in the fleet to enhance the comfort of the students during their commutes.
In addition to the transport programme, CM Maryam Nawaz discussed other important matters during a meeting with the ambassador of Portugal. She directed the authorities to redesign incentive packages aimed at attracting foreign investors, showcasing her broader vision for economic growth and development in the region.
