The Sindh government has announced a significant upgrade to Karachi’s public transport system with the introduction of 500 electric buses. This move aims to modernize commuting and reduce pollution in the city.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, where Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stressed the importance of better transit options for Karachi’s increasing population. Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon highlighted the benefits of electric buses, such as reducing traffic congestion and cutting down emissions.
In addition to the electric buses for Karachi, the government plans to distribute 300 diesel-hybrid buses across various divisions in Sindh. These buses will help improve the public transport system throughout the province. Moreover, another 300 electric buses will be used for intercity routes, enhancing connectivity between different cities.
Chief Minister Shah also reviewed the progress of the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. This project, which spans 21 kilometers, is crucial for improving urban transit. The feasibility study for the Yellow Line BRT is expected to be completed by November. Once finished, this project will offer a more efficient and eco-friendly mode of transportation for Karachi’s residents.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to upgrade the public transport system in Sindh, making it more modern and environmentally friendly. The introduction of electric and hybrid buses is expected to significantly reduce air pollution and provide a more reliable and efficient commuting option for the people of Karachi and other parts of Sindh.
