The National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC), soon to be renamed the National Grid Company (NGC), is actively searching for a qualified professional to take on the critical role of Managing Director (MD). A Core Role in Power Sector Transformation
The NTDC, with a workforce of over 10,000, operates Pakistan’s bulk power transmission network, covering regions across Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Key Responsibilities for the Managing Director
The appointed MD will lead NTDC through its transformation, implementing strategies that enhance system reliability, expand the network to accommodate new energy sources, and restructure internal operations. Responsibilities include developing and executing business plans, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing strategic assets, and enhancing project management capabilities. The MD will be expected to work closely with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Energy and Planning Commission to optimize the transmission sector for the benefit of the nation’s citizens. A central responsibility will also be implementing a merit-based performance system and efficient supply chain processes, which will be pivotal in creating a robust, modern transmission network.
Qualifications and Experience Required
The NTDC is seeking an MD with at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, though candidates with advanced degrees like a Master’s or PhD will be given additional credit. The candidate should possess a minimum of 20 years of post-qualification experience in corporate management, with at least three years in a high-level role such as CEO or Managing Director, or a position reporting directly to the CEO.
Candidates with experience in power transmission, distribution, or consulting will be given priority, especially those with extensive experience in senior management roles within Pakistan’s public sector or equivalent positions. Moreover, applicants must meet the requirements outlined in the “Fit and Proper Criteria” under the SOEs Act 2023.
Competitive Contract and Remuneration
The position is a three-year contractual role, which may be extended based on mutual agreement. A competitive, market-aligned compensation package will be offered, reflecting the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience. Government employees selected for the role will need to either resign or take early retirement from their current government positions.
