The Punjab government has started a work-from-home policy for office workers in areas heavily affected by smog, as severe air pollution impacts millions. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that public and private offices in cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan will run with only 50% of staff working in-person to help lower pollution.
This policy aims to reduce people’s exposure to hazardous air and cut down on transportation, a key factor in smog levels. Alongside this, the government has also decided to close schools in the affected areas and has made wearing masks mandatory in smog-hit locations to protect public health.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed that schools will remain closed until November 17, with classes continuing online. She noted that winds from India have worsened the smog in cities such as Multan, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Gujranwala.
These steps are part of the government’s effort to protect people’s health and reduce pollution, especially as air quality remains a serious concern for those living in these districts.
