During a ceremony in Lahore on Saturday, former Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi emphasized the importance of a clear vision from political leadership for the effective functioning of the system.
He alleged that corruption worth over Rs20 billion had taken place in the distribution of free flour, which was allocated from a budget of Rs84 billion.
He questioned the value the poor received in exchange for the money spent and blamed the coalition leadership’s failure for the country’s problems.
Although Abbasi did not specify that the caretaker Punjab government was involved in the corruption, caretaker provincial information minister Amir Mir rejected the allegations as “false and fabricated.”
Amir Mir, the caretaker provincial information minister, rejected the corruption allegations made by former prime minister Abbasi about the free flour scheme during a ceremony in Lahore on Saturday.
Mir stated that not even a single penny of corruption had taken place and the scheme was the most successful one in Punjab’s history, benefitting 30 million deserving people. He added that the caretaker Punjab government was ready to be held accountable for every penny spent.
Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also praised the success of the scheme and stated that it was made possible through the hard work of administrative officers.
Meanwhile, Fawad Chaudhry, the PTI senior vice president, called for the NAB chairman to investigate the allegations made by Abbasi and hold the caretaker Punjab government accountable.
