This will be around a 10-day trip to the orbiting laboratory and the first assignment for Saudi Arabia’s new astronaut programme.
They intention join UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi in commissioning the station for a six-month mission.
The travel for the kingdom arrives nearly 40 years after it sent its first resident, Sultan bin Salman, into orbit on Nasa’s Space for a week-long visit.
MS Barnawi will evolve the first Arab lady on the ISS. Egyptian engineer Sara Sabry evolved the first Arab lady in space when she travelled on a Blue Origin space tourism aviation in August of the previous year.
The kingdom’s space agency, Saudi Space Commission, is currently trying to specify a sufferable space programme.
MS Barnaw and MR Al Qarni could be the foremost of many astronauts that Saudi Arabia hopes to recruit.
Mishaal Ashemimry, the microgravity analysis leader at the Saudi Space Commission, said final month that the kingdom is considering long-duration space assignments.
“We do have a passion and a goal to have long-stay assignments that will capitalise on that microgravity atmosphere,” she said.
“We want to do that with this human space aviation programme”
“In doing so, we will train many astronauts and engage many local entities to do a lot of research.
“We will also support our international research collaborations in work on microgravity that traverse from human health to physical science.”
During this trip, the two Saudi astronauts will take out several science experiments assigned to them by Saudi-based universities.
