Google pays tribute to Abdul Rahman Munif via Google Doodle, but only a few people know about the great novelist. Abdul Rahman Munif is a Saudi based novelist of 20th century with genre lying in cultural critic.
The author penned down 15 novels including Al-Nihayat, Mudun al-Milh which is about the transition of Arab during the oil era, Sharq al-Mutawassit, and the most popular novel Ard Al-Sawad published in three volumes.
Abdul Rahman Munif was born in Jordan in 1933, and he later moved to Baghdad for higher education in law. He did his PhD in petroleum economics from the University of Belgrade. Abdul Rahman Munif started his career as an economist in an Oil industry in Baghdad. He also worked in Iraq as an editor of Al-Naft wa al-Tanmiyya publication.
Abdul Rahman started writing in the 1970s and formulated various short stories and novels. His remarkable writings have been translated in more than 10 languages and have secured many awards in Al-Owais Cultural Award as well as Cairo gatherings for Arab Creativity in Novel Writing awards.
Abdul Rahman Munif left the world in 2004 in Damascus. He is being celebrated on his 90th birthday in all Arab Countries.
