The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is planning to open passport counters in 30 tehsils across Pakistan, following the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The decision aims to make the process of obtaining CNICs (Computerized National Identity Cards) and passports easier for the public.
Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed the establishment of passport counters at Nadra offices during a meeting in Islamabad. The passport counters will be set up in areas where there are no existing passport offices.
The initiative will cover various regions, including Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Sargodha, KP, and Islamabad. The passport counters will be operated by the Passport and Immigration Department, with the goal of facilitating citizens and streamlining the passport application process. Nadra will charge a fee of Rs1,000 per passport, in addition to government fees.
This move will ensure that people can access passport services conveniently without traveling long distances. The initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to provide improved services to citizens, including the launch of an online passport fee payment app in November last year.
