Arshad Nadeem and Shajar Abbas have been selected to represent Pakistan at the Asian Athletics Championship in Pattaya, Thailand, according to the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP). The championship will be held from July 12 to July 16, following a trial organized by AFP in Lahore, in which 60 players participated.
Arshad Nadeem, a renowned javelin thrower who won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, will be joined by Yasir Sultan as representatives of Pakistan at the Asian Championship. Arshad Nadeem, who previously won a bronze medal at the Asian Games, is expected to face tough competition from India’s Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra.
In addition to Arshad Nadeem and Yasir Sultan, Shajar Abbas, a sprinter who reached the 100-meter final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year, will also be competing in the Asian Championship. Abdul Mueed will participate in the 200 and 400 meters events, while Esha Imran, Pakistan’s sole female athlete, will compete in the 100, 200, and 400 meters events.
Arshad Nadeem has a significant opportunity to end Pakistan’s 32-year medal drought at the Asian Athletics Championship. Pakistan’s last medal in this competition was achieved in 1991 in Kuala Lumpur.
