Pakistan concluded the 16th Special Olympics World Games in Berlin with an impressive achievement of 10 gold medals. One notable victory was by cyclist Safeer Abid, who won gold in the 10km time trial race, completing it in 23 minutes and 02.02 seconds. This was Safeer’s first participation in the World Games, and he expressed his enthusiasm to win more medals for Pakistan in future international events.
In the 500m time trial race, Madeeha Tahir secured a silver medal, while Amina Arshad won the bronze medal, both contributing to Pakistan’s success in cycling. In futsal, Pakistan finished second and won the silver medal after a closely contested match with Oman.
Pakistan also achieved commendable results in tennis, securing fourth place in women’s doubles, men’s singles, and unified men’s doubles. In the Bocce team event, Mahnoor, Simran Mahesh Lal, Jamilur Rahman, and Farhan Aslam brought home the silver medal by defeating teams from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Farhan Aslam and Mahnoor also won bronze medals in men’s singles and women’s singles, respectively.
Muhammad Luqman and Habibullah contributed to Pakistan’s gold medal count in athletics and powerlifting. Luqman won gold in the 100m race and a silver medal in long jump, while Habibullah clinched gold in the 83-kilogram deadlift and won silver medals in squat, bench press, and combined weight. Additionally, Mirwaiz secured a silver medal in the 3,000m race.
