During the current Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, a unique amphibious ambulance called Tamiyah has been introduced to improve services for the pilgrims. This groundbreaking vehicle, launched by the Saudi Red Crescent, is the first of its kind in the Middle East, according to the Saudi news agency SPA. Tamiyah is specially designed to reach difficult and remote areas like marshlands and mountainous terrains, where regular ambulances face challenges.
The main purpose of this ambulance is to carry out rescue and evacuation missions and provide medical services at the holy sites during the Hajj pilgrimage, which attracts around 2 million Muslims from all over the world.
Notable features of Tamiyah include the ability to adjust the air pressure in its tires to overcome various terrain obstacles and unpredictable weather conditions. With its strong structure, the ambulance can accommodate two patients, six additional individuals, and the driver.
Moreover, Tamiyah can operate continuously for nearly 19 hours and is effective even in low-light conditions. This advanced amphibious ambulance is expected to greatly contribute to the efficient and timely delivery of medical assistance during the Hajj pilgrimage, especially in challenging environments that were previously inaccessible to regular ambulances.
