South Korea joins the international standard of age, making all South Koreans a year or two younger. South Korea used to consider newborns as 1-year-old. However, the South Korean Assembly passed the law on Tuesday to leave the traditional method.
Yoon Suk Yeol, the President of South Korea has announced the change on the huge demands of the public. All the judicial and administrative areas of the country will change the age of citizens making them 1 or 2 years younger as per the international standards. The initiative is taken to avoid legal and social conflicts and confusion based on the country’s distinctive method.
South Koreans have been considering the time spent in the womb as well, considering a newborn aged 1. Therefore, the citizens of the country are usually one or two years older than other people worldwide. This system was highly regarded in their workplace where age is an important factor.
Now as the system has transformed, it is a relief that the citizens do not need to bring their IDs for change as the government forms are based on the international system. In addition, the school admissions and military services are based on the calendar age specifying the birth year.
The stores in the country also follow the calendar age to determine someone who is 19 years and above of age.
Koreans are going to be a year younger this time not due to their impressive skincare, but owing to the quitting of the unique ‘Korean Age’ system.
