The federal government has created a special committee, led by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, to discuss whether Pakistan should participate in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be held in India.
Due to strained relations and security concerns with India, there are doubts about Pakistan’s involvement in the tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has stated that they need government approval for the team to travel to India. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed the committee to assess the situation and provide recommendations.
The final decision on Pakistan’s participation will be based on these recommendations and will require the prime minister’s approval. The committee consists of important government ministers, heads of national security institutions, and the foreign secretary. Additionally, the PCB has requested a security assessment of the venues offered for Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup.
