Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan have finalized a plan to build a railway that will connect their countries. The railway will start from Uzbekistan’s Termiz and pass through Mazar-e-Sharif and Logar in Afghanistan before entering Pakistan through the Kharlachi border crossing in Kurram.
The signing ceremony for this project was attended by important officials from all three countries, including Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar from Pakistan. They see this railway as a significant step towards boosting trade and connectivity in the region.
The railway will serve both passengers and freight, making it easier to transport goods between Uzbekistan and Pakistan. This project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 and is likely to reduce transportation costs and delivery times significantly.
The three countries have also signed a plan for constructing a 573-kilometer Trans-Afghan railway, which will connect Central Asia to Arabian Sea ports, further expanding transportation networks and promoting collaboration among the nations.
