Saudi Arabia is now targeting Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after failing to sign Lionel Messi. Al Hilal, a Saudi club, has started the process to recruit Mbappe and offered a huge transfer fee of $300 million to PSG. This amount would break the previous world record set when Neymar was acquired by PSG for $247 million in 2017.
The specific details of Mbappe’s potential contract are not known yet. The 24-year-old French captain had previously mentioned in May that he doesn’t want to extend his PSG contract, which ends next year, but wants to stay for one more season.
This way, he can become a free agent next summer and leave PSG without a transfer fee. However, the PSG president, Nasser Al Khelaifi, sees this as “impossible” and gave Mbappe a two-week ultimatum to decide on signing a new contract or leaving this summer.
Due to the contract dispute, Mbappe was excluded from the PSG squad for their pre-season tour in Asia. He is PSG’s all-time leading scorer with an impressive record of 212 goals in 260 appearances. Mbappe initially joined PSG on a season-long loan from Monaco in 2017 as a teenager, and the move became permanent the following year in a deal worth 180 million euros ($200 million).
