Here are the names and details of all 7 children of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) including 3 sons and 4 daughters. 6 of his children died during his lifetime.

Names of Prophet Muhammad’s children 

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had 4 daughters and 2 sons from Hazrat Khadija رضي الله عنها One of his sons Ibrahim رضي الله عنها was from Maria Qibtiya رضي الله عنها.

  • Qasim ibn Muhammad.رضي الله عنها
  • Zainab رضي الله عنها
  • Ruqayyah رضي الله عنها
  • Umm Kulsoom رضي الله عنها
  • Fatimah رضي الله عنها
  • Abdullah رضي الله عنها
  • Ibrahim رضي الله عنها

Qasim ibn Muhammad

Qasim Ibn Muhammad was the eldest son of Prophet Muhammad. He died at the age of only 3 and was buried in Jannat al Mualla in Makkah.

In Arab culture, people call others by the name of their children and that’s why Prophet Muhammad used to be called Abu al-Qasim.

  • Born in: 598 A.D.
  • Died in: 601 A.D.
  • Age when died: 3 years.

Zainab bint Muhammad

Zainab رضي الله عنها was the eldest daughter of Prophet Muhammad born one year after Qasim. She married Abu al-As ibn al-Rabi رضي الله عنها at the age of 11. Zainab رضي الله عنها died at the young age of 30 due to a complication from the miscarriage and was buried at Jannat ul Baqi.

  • Born in: 599 A.D.
  • Died in: 629 A.D.
  • Age when died: 30 years.

Ruqayya bint Muhammad

Ruqayya رضي الله عنها was the second daughter of Prophet Muhammad born two years after Zainab. She got married to a son of Abu Lahab but was divorced when Prophet Muhammad started preaching Islam openly.

At the age of 14 years, Ruqayya رضي الله عنها got married to Uthman bin Affan رضي الله عنها. It is said that Ruqayya رضي الله عنها died on the same day when Muslims won the Battle of Badr and got buried at Jannat ul Baqi.

  • Died in: 623 A.D.
  • Age when died: 22 years.

Umm Kulsoom

Umm, Kulsoom رضي الله عنها was the third daughter of Prophet Muhammad. She got married to a son of Abu Lahab but was divorced when Prophet Muhammad started preaching Islam openly.

One year after the death of her sister Ruqayya رضي الله عنها she married Uthman Bin Affan رضي الله عنها at the age of 21. 6 years after her marriage, she got sick and died.

  • Died in: 630 A.D. 
  • Age when died: 27 years

Fatimah al-Zahra

Fatima al-Zahra رضي الله عنها was the fourth and the youngest daughter of Prophet Muhammad. She was married to Ali Ibn Talib رضي الله عنها and gave birth to Hasan رضي الله عنها and Hussain رضي الله عنها.

Fatima al-Zahra رضي الله عنها died 6 months after the death of Prophet Muhammad at the age of 27. Many believe that Prophet Muhammad used to love Fatima al-Zahra رضي الله عنها the most among all his children.

  • Born in: 605 A.D.
  • Died in: 632 A.D.
  • Age when died: 27 years.

Abdullah ibn Muhammad

Abdullah رضي الله عنها was the second son of Prophet Muhammad after 4 daughters and he named him after the name of his father. He was also called Tahir Ibn Muhammad and Tayib ibn Muhammad.

Abdullah too died while he was an infant just like his brother Qasim who died at the age of 3.

  • Born in: 611 A.D.
  • • Died in 613 A.D.
  • Age when died: 2 years.

Ibrahim ibn Muhammad

Ibrahim رضي الله عنها was the third son of Prophet Muhammad born with Maria Qibtiya رضي الله عنها who was a concubine It is said that Ibrahim رضي الله عنها died on the 10th of Rabi ul Awwal, 2 days before the death of Prophet Muhammad.

The sun eclipsed the day of Ibrahim رضي الله عنها death. People said that the sun had eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. Prophet Muhammad said: “The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or birth) of someone. When you see the eclipse, pray and invoke Allah.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 1043.

  • Born in: 630 A.D.
  • Died in: 632 A.D.
  • Age when died: 2 years.
