The Saudi Fund Development (SFD) has officially inaugurated the King Abdullah Campus at Azad Jammu and Kashmir University (UAJK) in Pakistan. The project is funded by a $90 million grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The inauguration was led by Dr. Saud bin Ayed Al-Shammari, the Director General of Asia Operations at SFD, in the presence of Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary, and the President of the State of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
The campus consists of 15 academic departments, a library, a mosque, administration blocks, accommodation, and a state-of-the-art auditorium. The campus is expected to benefit more than 10,000 students, faculty members, and employees. Cutting-edge research and educational opportunities will be provided to support Pakistan’s sustainable socio-economic development.
The project is aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Sustainable Cities and Local Communities.
Sultan Mehmood, the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for their support. The SFD Director General emphasized the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and SFD, spanning over 47 years aimed at promoting Pakistan’s sustainable development.
The inauguration of the King Abdullah campus marks a significant milestone and represents the strong bond of friendship between both countries.
