The construction cost of the great RMS Titanic, back in 1912, amounted to approximately $7.5 million while James Cameron’s renowned film ‘Titanic’ carried a production price tag of $200 million, exceeding the vessel’s cost by about 50%.
The Royal Merchant Ship, a British passenger liner, on its maiden voyage, met a tragic fate taking more than 1,500 lives. The vessel hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15th April 1912, during its journey from Southampton to New York City.
The catastrophe stands as one of the deadliest peacetime commercial marine disasters in modern history. The cinematic masterpiece made on Titanic, directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron premiered in 1997. Showcased as an American epic romance and disaster film from the historical accounts of Titanic’s ill-fated voyage, the film was a joint effort between Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox.
The production team contributed a hefty budget of $200 million, earning the title of the most expensive film ever made during that time. The film achieved remarkable success achieving significant milestones.
Titanic became the first film to reach the billion-dollar revenue market and subsequently became the highest-grossing film to date during the time of its release, amassing a global total of $2.18 billion.
