Pakistan and China have started a new way to trade things together. They are using a special road system called the international road transport (TIR) to make their trading relationship stronger.
This new trade route begins in a city called Kashgar in China and goes all the way to the capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad. To start this route, a group of five trucks left from Kashgar in a special event where important people from both China and Pakistan were present.
Two groups, one from Pakistan (National Logistics Corporation) and one from China (CEVA Logistics), are working together to make this trade route happen using a special agreement called the United Nations International Road Transport Convention (TIR). This new route will make it easier to move things between the two countries, which means less money spent on customs fees when things cross the border. Last year, in 2022, the trading between China and Pakistan was worth $12.06 billion.
This is the first time these two countries are starting a trade route like this using the TIR system. This is a new way of moving things across borders and it’s happening between Xinjiang, a place in China, and Pakistan. It might become a model for more trade routes in the future, especially related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a big plan between the two countries.
