Mercedes-Benz has reached an important milestone with its eActros 600 electric truck prototype. It completed a challenging 1,000-kilometer journey through the Alps with only one charging stop.
This journey took the e-truck from Stuttgart, Germany, to Bolzano, Italy, and back, carrying a heavy 40-ton load. It managed steep hills and tough terrain without needing to stop and charge in between.
The successful trip was possible because of a few key factors. The truck has an efficient drive system, a large lithium-iron-phosphate battery (over 600 kWh), and strong recuperation capabilities.
The eActros 600 has two electric motors with 400 kW power and can peak at over 600 kW. Mercedes initially said it could go about 500 km (310 miles) on one charge, and it can recharge from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes.
Engineers designed it to have a tough operational life of 1.2 million kilometers over 10 years on the road. This achievement shows the potential of electric trucks for long-distance journeys.
