In the first week of December, 2023 at COP28, UAE will display its first locally developed petrol to electric repurposed vehicle, showcasing progress toward Net-Zero goals. Peec Mobility, headed by 24-year-old entrepreneur Zach Faizal, will introduce technology that transforms retired petrol vehicles into electric ones, slashing costs by 30% and manufacturing time by 80%.
Peec was founded in 2022. It targets repurposing entire fleets of ICE vehicles by providing a cost-effective alternative to scrapping and manufacturing new EVs. Faizal envisions collaborating with the government to convert 5% of existing vehicles annually. It will potentially reduce transportation emissions by 23% by 2030.
Moreover, the startup is backed by multinational teams and plans to have 500 repurposed EVs on Dubai roads by 2024. Faizal aims to expand this eco-friendly conversion model globally, emphasizing the importance of investing in charging infrastructure over vehicle manufacturing. The strategy involves establishing local ReFactories, with the first one in DIC set to commence production next year.
Faizal’s vision goes beyond local production, aspiring to develop not only Peec technology and vehicles but also the surrounding automotive supply chain. His pragmatic approach focuses on the short-term goal of reducing capex investment in electric vehicle transition and advocating for increased investment in charging infrastructure by 2030. With Peec Mobility leading the way, the UAE positions itself as a pioneer in sustainable transportation solutions.
