During Apple’s “Scary Fast” event on October 30, where they introduced the new MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac with M3 chips, the real star behind the scenes was the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
All the presenters, locations, and drone footage in the event were captured using this smartphone, which has become a preferred choice for creative professionals and filmmakers.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts an exceptional camera system, providing top-notch video quality that can rival professional video cameras. It allows creatives to shoot in ProRes up to 4K60 fps to an external drive with Apple Log encoding, preserving more detail for post-production color grading.
Furthermore, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the first smartphones to support the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES), a global standard for color workflows.
According to documentary film director Brian Oakes, who led the production, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was capable of capturing complex shots that would typically require a large and expensive camera.
The production also received guidance from Apple’s Jon Carr, a Pro Workflow video specialist with credits on major films, and Jeff Wozniak, who has worked on blockbuster productions.
The team used multiple iPhone 15 Pro Max devices, leveraging the integration between the iPhone, the Blackmagic Camera app, and Tentacle Sync to ensure synchronization throughout the production.
They also utilized Beastgrip accessories, such as cages and rigs, to enhance the shooting experience.
