India secured a commanding seven-wicket victory against Pakistan in their highly anticipated World Cup clash at the Ahmedabad stadium. Pakistan, after a promising start at 155-2, was bowled out for 191.
India comfortably chased down the target with 117 balls to spare, extending their unbeaten streak against Pakistan in the World Cup to eight matches.
India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, played a pivotal role with his impressive 86 off 63 balls, featuring six fours and six sixes.
India, considered the favorites to win the title, maintained an undefeated record in this edition, having won all three of their matches. Pakistan, on the other hand, has two wins and one defeat in the tournament.
Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, acknowledged the middle-order collapse and underwhelming performance from the opening bowlers. Pakistan had initially set their sights on a higher total but struggled as wickets fell quickly.
In a disappointing batting performance, Pakistan was bowled out in just 42.5 overs, losing eight wickets for 36 runs in 80 balls.
This total was the third lowest Pakistan has posted against India in World Cup history, after their scores of 173 in Sydney (1992) and 180 at Manchester (1999).
