Pakistan took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series against New Zealand after beating them by 38 runs in the second Twenty20 International at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Saturday.

The Kiwis managed to score 154-7 in their 20 overs, with Mark Chapman being the only batsman to resist with 65 runs off 40 balls. Pakistan, after winning the toss, posted a total of 192-4 in their allotted 20 overs, with skipper Babar Azam scoring a magnificent unbeaten century, which included 11 fours and three sixes.

The partnership between openers Mohammad Rizwan and Azam added 99 runs for the first wicket. The Kiwis were unable to reply with such strength and only Chapman offered some resistance during the run chase. Pakistani bowler Haris Rauf was impressive, taking four wickets for 27 runs in four overs.

Despite missing eight players due to their commitments in the Indian Premier League, New Zealand made two changes for the second T20I, with Henry Shipley replacing Adam Milne and Cole McConchie taking the place of Ish Sodhi, who has a calf niggle. Meanwhile, Pakistan remained unchanged for the contest.

The remaining three T20 matches of the series will be played on April 17 in Lahore and on April 20 and 24 in Rawalpindi. Following the T20 series, Pakistan and New Zealand will play five one-day internationals to prepare for the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India.

New Zealand withdrew from their scheduled visit to Pakistan on the day of the first game in September 2021, citing security concerns, but played two Tests and three ODIs in Pakistan just three months ago.

The absence of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson due to a knee injury provided an opportunity for new players to showcase their talent, with Tom Latham.

Babar Azam, has been struggling with his form in the last 16 One Day Internationals, managing to score just 13 runs in 8 innings. This is a stark contrast to his usually impressive and consistent performance, raising concerns among fans and experts alike. Babar’s return to form will be crucial for Pakistan’s success in future matches.
