The Bahrain Metro Project is set to become operational in just two years, as confirmed by government officials. Last week, three ministries disclosed their collaboration plans for the project during a meeting. It highlights the involvement of both local and international private companies.
The contract for Phase-1 of the project has been awarded to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). This phase will consist of constructing a 20 station network spanning approximately 3030 kilometers.
The DMRC will develop four metro lines in two phases, with two interchanges. It is expected at the metro junction of Bab Al Bahrain and AI Farooq. The initial line will connect Bahrain International Airport to Seef Mall, covering a distance of 13 kilometers and featuring nine stations.
The second line will cover a distance of 15.6 kilometers and include 11 stations, serving the route from Juffair to Issa town. Passengers will benefit from convenient connections to Salmaniya, Zinj, and Tubli. Moreover, the Ministry of Health revealed its plans to complete the Qalali Health Center, expand Salmaniya Hospital, and establish several clinics. The funding for these projects, totaling BD1.5 billion, will come from the state, Gulf financing, and other sources.
