During the High-level Forum on Green Development as part of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the significance of the Green Silk Road in promoting harmony with nature and benefiting both people and the planet.
The forum, themed “Green Silk Road for Harmony with Nature,” brought together more than 400 participants from over 40 countries to discuss the achievements of the Green Silk Road initiative over the past decade.
Zafar Uddin Mahmood, former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, highlighted the transformative effects of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on green development in Pakistan, including the establishment of solar and wind power facilities. Recent developments, such as LONGi’s announcement of achieving 2GW in Pakistan, illustrate the growth of the solar energy market in Pakistan.
Chinese companies are not only investing in green projects in Pakistan but also expanding their global presence with investments and advanced supply chains. China’s status as the world’s largest producer of solar panels, wind turbines, and new energy vehicles positions it as a leader in sustainable and green energy.
China’s export value of solar panels, lithium-ion batteries, and electric vehicles has seen substantial growth, and this trend continues to rise.
At the same forum, LONGi launched the first phase of its Serendah Module Plant in Malaysia, representing an investment of USD 380 million and creating local jobs.
Furthermore, China has signed numerous climate change cooperation documents with developing countries over the past decade, emphasizing the global consensus on green development within the Belt and Road Initiative.
During the forum, the Chinese government unveiled significant plans, including the Beijing Initiative for Belt and Road Green Development, the Green Investment and Finance Project, and the Action Plan for Green Technology Development in Central Asia.
Green development is increasingly recognized as an essential aspect to achieve broader global goals, particularly in addressing climate change and promoting sustainability.
The Belt and Road Initiative is playing a key role in advancing green development and fostering cooperation among participating countries.
