During his stay, General Sanders will meet with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and participate in various defense-related activities. The press release emphasizes the strong and valuable military relationship between the UK and Pakistan, which is rooted in shared history and connections through the diaspora.
The existing defense relationship involves Pakistani officers receiving training at prestigious UK military institutions such as the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the Advance Command and Staff Course, and the Royal College of Defence Studies.
This visit by General Sanders takes place nearly a year after Pakistan experienced devastating floods, affecting millions of people and submerging a significant portion of the country. The UK’s Ministry of Defence played a direct role in assisting with flood relief operations by providing boats and portable generators at the request of the Pakistani army chief.
One of the key focuses of the visit will be discussing bilateral military cooperation in response to climate change-related crises.
