George Fulton, a journalist, writer, and producer of Pakistani-British origin, has decided to leave Pakistan after living in the country for twenty years. Known for his candid opinions on various political issues in Pakistan, Fulton dedicated much of his time and intellect to the nation and its affairs.
In a Twitter post on Monday, Fulton announced his departure, saying, “Pakistan Khuda hafiz. I’ve spent 17 of the last 21 years in this country, but alas it’s time to move on. Thank you for everything. Met my wife and had my children here. Till we meet again, goodbye. Stay strong. Pakistan Zindabad.” Fulton first visited Pakistan in 2002 to launch the BBC-produced political talk show “Question Time Pakistan” and later produced another show for the BBC called “Hard Talk Pakistan.”
With various successful ventures, Fulton created his own YouTube channel, Desi George, where he collaborated with Shaniera Akram, the wife of former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram and an Australian social worker.
Alongside his work for the BBC, Fulton hosted a TV show on Geo TV called “George ka Pakistan,” which gained him popularity. He expressed his enthusiasm for Pakistani culture through experiences such as working with Punjabi farmers in the fields and learning to build Kalashnikovs with the Pashtuns. These experiences earned him the reputation of being a true Pakistani and eventually led to him acquiring Pakistani citizenship.
Later, Fulton joined AAJ TV, where he launched another show titled “News, Views and Confused.” He also co-hosted Aaj TV’s morning show with his wife, titled “Kiran Aur George.”
Fulton’s departure marks the end of an era for his career in Pakistan, leaving behind a legacy of thought-provoking journalism and unique perspectives on the country’s social and political landscape.
