DNA which stores information about our genetic makeup has been explored to now save any data. With everything shifting to online mode and advancement of technology, the plethora of data generated can now be stored in our very own DNA!
The claim has been made by professor of synthetic biology, Tom De Greef, from Eindhoven University of Technology. Greef has put forward thermos-confined Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) as the advanced technique to save data in DNA. He has made micro-capsules acting as hard drives.
Each micro-capsule will be one data file. They have also been designed such that they seal themselves upon reaching 122°F. Once the temperature becomes normal the original data file will remain attached and DNA is saved from disruption.
According to the scientist this method produces less errors as PCR will occur independently in each capsule.
This idea was first generated in 1980s, and later in 2012, Harvard scientists actualized this hypothesis by storing a 52,000-word book in DNA. They stored almost 1,280,000 GB of information per gram.
This proves the depth of natural wonders and how much there is to discover yet!
