Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed that the current government’s term will come to an end on August 14, which is Pakistan’s Independence Day. During a speech at the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund, he announced that the coalition government will conclude its term next month, as the next general elections are scheduled for October this year.
In his address, Prime Minister Sharif stressed the significance of prioritizing education for the prosperity of the nation. He also mentioned that the International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board is scheduled to review the Stand-By Agreement for Pakistan, and he requested the public to pray for its approval, hoping it would strengthen the country’s economic position.
Furthermore, the prime minister stated that the agreement with the IMF should not be seen as a cause for celebration, but rather as a time for reflection.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed the electoral watchdog to hold elections for the local legislatures of Punjab as per the President’s directive. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan decided to postpone the polls until October 8. As a result, it is likely that elections in all provinces will be held concurrently.
