As the 2023 ODI World Cup approaches, cricket experts worldwide are sharing their predictions about who might emerge as the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
The much-anticipated event is scheduled to kick off on October 5th with a match between defending champions England and New Zealand. Pakistan’s opening game against the Netherlands is set for October 6th in Hyderabad. In a video discussion, cricket pundits and experts were asked to name the batsman they believe will score the most runs in this year’s World Cup.
Many well-known cricketers have chosen “Shubman Gill” as their top pick for the upcoming tournament’s leading run-scorer. Interestingly, one cricket legend had a different prediction, foreseeing Pakistan’s captain as the top run-getter in the event.
Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn stood apart from the consensus and picked Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, as the potential highest run-scorer. He stated, “The leading run-scorer is probably going to be somebody like Babar.”
In contrast, former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis went against the grain and didn’t select a Pakistani batsman for this honor. Instead, he foresaw Shubman Gill securing the top run-scorer position in this year’s mega-event edition.
It’s important to note that during the 2019 World Cup, 28-year-old Babar Azam impressed with his batting, accumulating 474 runs in eight matches. He boasted an impressive average of 67.71 and a strike rate of 87.77, including three fifties and a century, notably against New Zealand.
