Dean Mahmoud Youssef Al Balushi, the Director of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, highlighted the Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to promoting traffic safety in the community.

During the event, he cautioned families and children about the risks of using e-scooters on public roads and encouraged them to use these scooters only in designated areas while wearing proper safety gear.

In a separate announcement by Dubai Police, it was revealed that there have been five fatalities and 29 injuries in e-scooter accidents in the emirate over the past eight months. Dubai Police also stressed the importance of e-scooter riders adhering to road safety rules.

Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the traffic department in Dubai, disclosed that they have imposed over 10,000 fines on e-scooter riders in the past eight months and documented 32 accidents due to the improper use of e-scooters. Some of these accidents resulted in severe and moderate injuries.

At the Abu Dhabi event, Assistant Tariq Muhammad Hamidan from the Public Relations Department of the Directorate delivered an awareness lecture, emphasizing the need to supervise children during the winter vacation and protect them from the potential dangers of using e-scooters.

The lecture also stressed the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of Abu Dhabi by refraining from littering on the roads while driving. Violating this rule could lead to a fine of Dh1,000 and six black points on the driver’s license, as per Article 71 of the Traffic Act.
