Mohammad Hafeez, who held the position of Director of Cricket for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has stepped down from his role.
The decision appears to have been prompted by a series of events, including Hafeez’s desire to discuss the outcomes of the recent cricket tours of Australia and New Zealand with the newly appointed PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. However, it is reported that Naqvi was unable to accommodate Hafeez’s request for a meeting, leading to speculation that the PCB may not be inclined to continue working with Hafeez.
Hafeez, a former Test captain renowned for his contributions to Pakistani cricket, assumed the role of Director of Cricket in November of the previous year. Throughout his cricketing career, Hafeez has amassed an impressive record, participating in numerous matches for Pakistan and achieving notable success.
Nevertheless, reports suggest that tensions arose between Hafeez and senior players during the recent tour of New Zealand. Allegedly, players expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged duration of meetings led by Hafeez and criticized his stringent approach to team management.
Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players seeking to participate in various cricket leagues. It is claimed that Hafeez exhibited reluctance in providing NOCs for players intending to join the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), resulting in uncertainty regarding their contractual obligations.
