The Asia Cup 2023 encounter between arch-rivals India and Pakistan proved to be a monumental success, not only for the cricketing world but also for Disney+ Hotstar, as it shattered digital viewership records.
On Monday, September 11, the streaming platform achieved an astounding peak of 2.8 crore concurrent viewers, marking an unprecedented milestone for any India match in terms of digital viewership.
The momentous achievement was proudly announced by Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Twitter.
He noted that the game had attracted an astonishing 2.8 crore concurrent users on Disney+ Hotstar, setting a new digital viewership record for any India match. This remarkable milestone surpassed the previous best, which was the 2019 Cricket World Cup Semifinal between India and New Zealand, which had 2.52 crore concurrent users.
Today’s #INDvsPAK has clocked 2.8 Crore concurrent users on @DisneyPlusHS – the highest for any India match in the history of digital. The previous best was #INDvsNZ 2019 @cricketworldcup semifinal with 2.52 Crore concurrent users 🇮🇳 #AsiaCup@StarSportsIndia

This remarkable success can be attributed, in part, to Disney+ Hotstar’s strategic decision to offer free streaming of major cricket events, including the Asia Cup and the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, to mobile users.
This move undoubtedly contributed to the surge in viewership, underlining the platform’s popularity and influence in the world of digital sports broadcasting.
