Dubai International Airport has witnessed a significant increase in the number of travelers, with over 750,000 passengers since Friday. This surge in traffic can be attributed to the extended Eid Al Adha holiday and the start of the summer travel season.
During the Eid Al Adha holiday, coupled with some employees taking Monday off, the airport experienced a higher influx of passengers. However, the authorities in Dubai were well prepared to handle this surge and ensure smooth operations.
In-charge of Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, played a pivotal role in ensuring pleasant journeys for passengers during this period. The Airport’s smart gates technology, combined with an efficient staff, have been instrumental in maintaining seamless operations.
Smart Gate System
To enhance travel experience, Lt Gen Al Marri advised passengers to use the Airport’s smart gates system. This innovative “biometric passenger journey” uses facial and iris recognition technology. It enables travelers to swiftly pass through passport control. Impressively, in the first six months of this year alone, 9 million people have already taken advantage of the smart gates.
The assistant general director of the Airports Sector at the GDRFA, emphasized the goal of reaching a 50% smart gate adoption rate by the end of the year. With more people expected to travel during the summer holidays. Moreover, the smart gates offer an efficient solution for completing Airport procedures in few seconds.
Official predictions indicate that between June 20 and July 3, approximately 3.5 million passengers will traverse the airport. It will surpass last year’s corresponding period of 2.4 million. On July 2, the airport is anticipating a record-breaking influx of 305,000 passengers.

Despite initial concerns about the holiday rush, travelers have commended the well-organized and seamless procedures.
