The focus is on curtailing foul language directed at public sector employees while on duty. Offenders can expect imprisonment or fines ranging from AED 250,000 to AED 500,000. These measures are part of the Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021, which combats electronic crimes and rumors.
To promote positive behavior and educate the public, the Public Prosecution has launched the “Waey” initiative. It encourages inclusivity, provides legal advice, and engages with the community.
Waey uses media outlets and technology to reach all segments of society, especially the youth. The message is clear, online swearing can lead to jail time and hefty fines of up to $136,000 (AED 500,000).
Authorities are determined to penalize those who use slanderous language on social media, with even harsher consequences for those who target public sector employees.
