In Abu Dhabi, those unwanted plastic bottles could actually get you free bus rides.Abu Dhabi Mobility (AD Mobility), the official transport authority of the emirate, introduced a unique initiative in 2022 that encourages people to recycle plastic bottles in exchange for free bus trips.
This incentive-based program aims to reduce plastic waste while promoting the use of public transportation.Recently, the program expanded with the installation of two new recycling machines in Al Ain and Al Dhafra. These machines allow even more public transport users to participate in the eco-friendly program and earn rewards.
This initiative is the result of a partnership between AD Mobility, the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, and Cycled Technologies, a company known for its smart recycling solutions. Together, they are working to make the city greener while offering benefits to people who contribute to the recycling effort.
By turning plastic waste into a reward system, Abu Dhabi hopes to encourage more residents and visitors to recycle, reduce waste, and use public transportation, all while making the city more environmentally friendly.
